Blood on the Clocktower is a social-deduction game for 5-20 players, led by a storyteller. Players take on the roles of townsfolk who are trying to uncover and eliminate the demon and its minions. Players receive new information from the storyteller at night and the evil team kills and manipulates information. During the day, private and public discussions take place, along with voting on who will be executed that day. Each player has a unique role with its own ability, and even after death, they remain in the game—they can speak and cast one final vote. The storyteller is responsible for selecting characters, managing night actions, and providing information to keep the game balanced and exciting until the end. More

Basic game principle:

    • Two opposing sides - Good (Townsfolk + Outsiders) vs. Evil (Demon + Minions). There are also Travelers (visitors who join the game for a short time).
    • Nights and days alternate. At night, the Demon typically kills, and some roles gain/provide information. During the day, discussions and a vote on one execution take place.
    • The goal of Good is to execute the Demon. Evil wins if the Demon survives until only 2 players remain (with the Demon among them), or based on the effects of certain characters' abilities.

Brief overview of night and day:

    • Night: The storyteller awakens characters in a predetermined order, the Demon chooses and executes one player, and some characters receive information from the storyteller or otherwise activate their abilities.
    • Day: The storyteller announces who died, private debates, public debate, nominations, and voting on execution. Night and day alternate regularly until one side wins.

What sets the game apart:

    • Dead players are not eliminated—they can speak and each has one final vote during the execution voting, potentially having the deciding vote in the final execution.
    • Each player plays as a randomly assigned character with a unique ability—some gather information, others have a direct impact on the course of the game.
    • The storyteller actively manages the pace, balance, and experience (choosing the character setup, providing information, giving the evil team credible bluffs, and balancing the game within the rules if necessary).
    • Travelers can join/leave during the game; the storyteller can "execute" them at any time, and they do not count towards the evil team's victory conditions.
